Why Pursue the Mechanical Engineering 4+1 Master of Science Program at Wilkes?
With Wilkes University’s Mechanical Engineering 4+1 master of science program, you’ll launch your career sooner, saving time and tuition dollars.
Explore a rigorous curriculum that provides you with a solid mechanical engineering background. Combine traditional disciplines like fluid mechanics, thermal sciences and mechanical design with modern topics like additive manufacturing, robotics and nanotechnology.
Throughout the program, you’ll experience the advantages of small class sizes and hands-on lab sessions. Our dedicated faculty will push you to achieve more, while adopting a flexible approach to make completing the 4+1 program possible for traditional students and returning adult learners.
From the first days on campus through your master’s thesis or project, you’ll work side-by-side with these expert faculty who have strong industry experience and connections. At the end of five years, you’ll graduate with a BS and an MS in mechanical engineering, as well as a powerful collection of knowledge and in-demand skills to launch your career in our ever-changing world.
What Will You Learn in the Mechanical Engineering 4+1 Program?
- Build a solid foundation in robotics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, manufacturing and materials science.
- Develop an advanced understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Create new concepts and hone technical writing and oral presentation skills through thesis research and project completion.
- Learn and demonstrate high professional, ethical and moral standards required for industry.
Admission Process
You will declare mechanical engineering as an undergraduate student. By the end of your junior year, but preferably by the end of your sophomore year, you should apply to the ME 4+1 master’s program by contacting Yong Zhu, associate professor of mechanical engineering, at yong.zhu@ozone-1.com.
Curriculum Requirements
During your senior year (or earlier with advisor approval), you will complete at least two master’s level technical courses (6 credits).
These six credits will be in addition to the 130 credits required for the BS in mechanical engineering and are not counted toward the bachelor’s degree.
You will then complete an additional 24 credits in one year to satisfy the full, 30-credit requirement for the master’s in mechanical engineering.
